Editing is one of my favorite things to do. I’ve edited multiple custom publications, websites, one-off articles, and graphics. My first editing gig was a Forbes Custom magazine for a dotcom that is no longer around. Soon after — in 2008 — I took on editing a Thrivent Financial magazine that went out to four separate audiences including new investors, institutional investors, and retirees. I assigned and edited stories from freelancers. I handled the executive columns myself, ghostwriting them for the company’s executives. Around the same time I took on an executive editor role that lasted five years for Smart Enterprise. As an executive editor, I worked with the editor-in-chief to help set the editorial calendar, assign and edit stories, ghostwrite all of the executive columns, and helped create the tone and voice of the publication. (I got a glowing recommendation for that work, which can be found on my LinkedIn page.) Most recently, I was the editor-in-chief of The Commons, a publication from New America, a Washington DC-based think tank.
